Richard de Montbaston, St. Marina Expelled from the Monastery

14th century
MS. Richelieu Français 185
Bibliothèque Nationale de France

My source labels this as "St. Marina the Monk Presented to the Monastery," assuming that the two figures on the left are Marina and her father and the one on the right the abbot. But the womanly face of the person at the gate makes it clear that this is Marina herself, disguised as always as a male monk. The man on the left also wears a monk's habit, so most likely he is the abbot who told "Marinus" that "he" must be responsible for the child that "he" has been accused of fathering.

The text containing the illustration was produced in the workshop of Richard de Montbaston, but it is not clear whether he was the actual artist.
